Chris Bakriges Trio
Jazz Concert
8:00 PM
94 New Salem Street
Laconia, NH
Chris Bakriges Trio Performing at the newly established jazz and world music jazz performance on Thursday, September 1, 8:00 PM
NH Jazz Center at Pitman's Freight Room, 94 New Salem Street, Laconia, New Hampshire
For Reservations, call (518) 793-3183 or visit

The trio stands as one of the most fiercely eclectic group touring all too under-the-radar. Pianist Chris Bakriges, bassist Rich Mollin and drummer Brian Kornfeld traverse freely among jazz, classical and world idioms. This always has given their performances a buoyantly unpredictable but consistently high quality. Both evenings will be filmed and recorded.

Chris Bakriges was the last pianist to work with Oscar Peterson before the legend’s passing in 2007. Christopher’s association with Peterson began as a doctoral student in ethnomusicology at York University in Toronto. “Besides the virtuosity and elegance we all associate with Oscar, there was an incredible joy in his playing that he made me aware of in every lesson.”

The Chris Bakriges Trio, with Brian Kornfeld and Rich Mollin, have created an uncompromising body of work in a relatively short time. They are garnering acclaim for their ability to work as a mature, cohesive unit, performing a wide range of exciting new originals and adventurous takes on music from other genres. This unit hopes to become part of the jazz festival scene for years to come.

Drummer Brian Kornfeld studied at the Grove School of Music in California with Peter Erskine, Alex Acuna, David Garibaldi. Brian is also an in-demand drum tech worldwide for the likes of Dave Weckl, Jimmy Cobb, Anton Fig and Steve Smith. Bassist Rich Mollin teaches at The State University of New York in Oneonta. Rich has longstanding ties with the legendary improviser Paul Bley, organist Jeff Palmer, Spyro Gyro’s alumnae Jeremy Wall, and as house bassist with Sonart Studios. Rich also performs with the Catskill Symphony, Orpheus Theatre, and the Glimmerglass Opera Company.

Born in Detroit a few doors down from the original Motown Studios, Chris Bakriges now teaches at Elms College in Massachusetts as well as The Putney School in Vermont. He has performed with a broad lineage of jazz artists including Bobby McFerrin, Kenny Burrell, and Anthony Braxton. Chris was a long-standing member of groups lead by Stax/Truth artist Sandra Wright and the Italian Cicci Santucci, whose featured trumpet helped composer Ennio Morricone win the European Film Best Music Award for The Legend of 1900.

The trio’s belief in the band ethos and their personal stamp have put them firmly within instrumental jazz while attracting new audiences in search of depth and creativity. While the bulk of their output has been original music, they also rearrange the standards and approach songs in other idioms with their own distinctive mark.
